Ackroyd & Harvey have been in dialogue with leading cell biologist and Director of the IMP (Institute of Molecular Biology, Vienna), Jan-Michael Peters, to explore an artistic response to the mitotic division in cells, a process of fundamental importance for human health.
They will present two new works: 400 Cells, a short animation composed of hundreds of pencil drawings, and 10 Cells, an edition series of black and white digital prints.
The exhibition Lens on Life, will tour 3 European cities, and will feature the work of Ackroyd & Harvey, Lucy + Jorge Orta, Rob Kesseler and choreographer Shobana Jeyasingh, inspired by the complexities of the systems biology of mitosis. A documentary film, directed by the Bespoke Film Company will record a series of meetings between the artists and scientists as their respective artworks and research develop, illuminating the processes and common metaphors between artistic and scientific practice.
