This is version 2 of On The Shore – a large-scale artwork created by Ackroyd & Harvey in collaboration with poet, novelist and Writers Rebel activist Ben Okri in June 2021.
The work was created to address the climate and ecological emergency and was originally shown at Tate Modern and Thames Bankside, as a work in two acts.
Version 2 has been created to be presented at Festival of Thrift following Festival of Thrift’s declaration of a climate emergency in 2019.
Over nine days, the 5m x 3m banner was planted from seed and grew in the Bellamy Pavilion with a text written by Okri stencilled into the seedling grass. Equivalent to a photogram, his words were revealed in bright yellow as the letters were removed.
On Friday September 23rd, the banner was mounted on the exterior of Kirkleatham’s historic museum with two short films from On the Shore (Version 1) 2021 on view inside the Bellamy Pavilion.
Ackroyd & Harvey participated in our talks programme with Ben Okri to discuss our relationship with the natural environment.
