Beuys’ Acorns: A Circle of Oaks Comes to Thamesmead
Public event with artists Ackroyd & Harvey and Thamesmead Community Choir

On 29 January at 5.30pm the seventh oak was planted in Crossway Park to complete the town’s new 18-metre diameter ecological artwork.
The oak circle was strikingly illuminated during the event accompanied by live singing from the Thamesmead Community Choir, a vibrant group of local voices, who sing to uplift, empower and strengthen the heart of Thamesmead.
The trees were all grown from acorns collected by Ackroyd & Harvey. They were gathered from the 7000 oak trees planted by artist and environmental activist Joseph Beuys in Germany in 1982.
The ceremonial planting of the seventh oak was part of London Borough of Bexley’s Night Visions festival, supported by The Arts Council of England.
